Donald Trump on Accepting Election Results: “I Will Look at it at the Time”

Donald Trump swayed from political norms on Wednesday during the third and final debate heading into the general election. The billionaire was asked if he would concede if he loses the general election. He responded, “I will look at it at the time.”

The Republican candidate broke away from the two-century tradition where candidates conceded following the general election results.

Trump stated, “I will keep you in suspense.”

The tradition of conceding has led to a peaceful transition to presidency. Trump has stated that the election is “rigged” in recent weeks.  Trump’s performance during the third debate was much better in the first thirty minutes than in the past. The two started to get into heated arguments following the thirty-minute mark.

Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s campaign manager stated on CNN’s “News Day” on Thursday, “What Donald Trump has said, over time, if you take all of his statements together, he has said that he will respect the results of the election.”

The last time the election came into question was in 2000 when Al Gore waited to see the results of a recount in a close race in Florida. Following the recount, Gore conceded and didn’t question the election’s integrity.

The CNN/ORC instant poll had Clinton winning the debate 52% to Trump’s 39%.
