RNC Chairman Reince Priebus Stands Behind Donald Trump

Reince Priebus, Republican National Committee Chairman, told members of the RNC that he stands behind Donald Trump. The commitment from Priebus comes after a major blow to Trump’s campaign where several Republicans turned away from the Trump campaign following the leak of a 2005 tape of the nominee that was sexually aggressive and lewd towards women.

Paul Ryan, House Speaker, stated that he will no longer defend Trump on Monday, which led to backlash from the presidential nominee.

Trump tweeted, “Paul Ryan should spend more time on balancing the budget, jobs and illegal immigration and not waste his time on fighting Republican nominee.” Hours ago, Trump tweeted, “Despite winning the second debate in a landslide (every poll), it is hard to do well when Paul Ryan and others give zero support!”

The remarks from Priebus were followed with a statement of “Like all of you, I don’t condone what was said in the video.”

He quashed rumors of the RNC trying to remove Trump as the Republican candidate on Monday, too. “Everything is on course,” he stated. He further stated that there have been no meetings to discuss replacing Trump as the Republican nominee.

Ryan stated that he would focus his efforts on protecting the Republican majority in Congress.

Donald Trump’s poll numbers have slumped following the controversy, with Clinton in a double digit lead going into the general election.
