Senator Susan Collins Announced That She Will Not Vote for Trump

Maine Senator Susan Collins announced that she will not be supporting Donald Trump in the general election. The senior senator mentioned three key incidents that changed her mind: Trump mocking a reporter with disabilities, attacks against Army Capt. Humayun Khan (a fallen Muslim soldier), and attacks against an Indiana-born judge’s Mexican heritage.

“Donald Trump does not reflect historical Republican values,” Collins wrote in the Washington Post.

Trump’s lack of respect for others is a major factor in Collins not backing his run for presidency.

“His lack of self-restraint and his barrage of ill-informed comments would make an already perilous world even more so,” stated the Senator.

The billionaire’s criticism of American allies also came under fire in the post. A group of 50 GOP security officials also signed a letter on Monday stating that Trump is a risk to the national security of the United States.

Collins wrote that she hopes Trump will be able to tone down his rhetoric, and apologize for comments and oversteps he made in the past.

“The unpleasant reality is that I have had to accept is that there will be no ‘new’ Donald Trump, just the same candidate who will slash and burn and trample anything and anyone he perceived as being in his way or an easy scapegoat,” stated Collins.

The Senator has stated that she will not vote for Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.
