The Islamic State released a new recording this week in which they addressed President Trump specifically for the first time. According to Reuters, ISIS spokesman Abi al-Hassan al-Muhajer said in the video:
“America you have drowned and there is no savior, and you have become prey for the soldiers of the caliphate in every part of the earth, you are bankrupt and the signs of your demise are evident to every eye.”
“… There is no more evidence than the fact that you are being run by an idiot who does not know what Syria or Iraq or Islam is.”
Always so cheerful, those guys.
Sidenote: CNBC thought it would be funny to link to the Reuters story with a poll that asked readers, “Do you agree with ISIS?” They didn’t dare come out and say, “Hey, we’re with the Islamic State on this one,” of course. Shame on them and shame on anyone who voted “yes” on their poll.
As for ISIS, we doubt that our president is going to lose any sleep over the insult. He knows what Syria, Iraq, and Islam are better than the last guy, on that you can be certain. He knows what they really are. And he knows that ISIS is closer to the true face of those countries than anyone in the Obama administration could ever admit.
The Islamic State’s brief but destructive phase of existence is coming to an end, slowly but surely. Yes, they will shed more blood. But they are on the downswing. Their base in Iraq will soon be history, and it’s only a matter of time before Trump escalates their demise in Syria. Islamic terrorism as a collective ideology will not be destroyed anytime soon, but we have a feeling that Trump is going to get closer to the mark than his predecessors.
Oh, but we’ll admit it. If you sat Obama and Trump down with a pen and asked them to each answer 100 questions about Syria, Iraq, and Islam, we would put our money on Obama. Knowledge-wise, we don’t doubt that he has the facts down pat.
But knowing a bunch of facts about something does not save you from idiot status. It’s what you do with those facts that matter, and Obama’s record speaks for itself. Trump may not have a thoughtful Middle Eastern policy book in him, but he can damn sure tell the U.S. military to start killing terrorists. If that makes him an idiot, then an idiot is what this country has needed for a long time.
